The Prepared Neighborhood Newsletter Oct. - Dec. 2009

Oct - December 2009

Our neighborhoods are organizing for emergencies by creating blocks of ten to fifteen families with a “Block Captain” responsible to see this happens.  We invite our neighbors to join with us in being prepared and working together in response to any future emergency.  The Block Captains will distribute this quarterly newsletter which will provide useful community information.  We know that preparation precedes power and unity in numbers gives us strength as a neighborhood.
CERT training and other emergency and First Aid training will be available in the near future as we become organized.  We will be working hand in hand with local entities to accomplish this and other essential services such as communications and “neighborhood Watch programs”.
Through the Block Captain, families are provided information and assist families in their emergency preparedness efforts.  They collect family information to identify or locate family members.  The form is on page eleven of your handbook.  This information is kept confidential by the Block Captain for emergency use only.
The suggestions and information contained in future newsletters could be placed in the Preparedness guidebooks for future reference.  Each quarter will focus on a specific topic with recipes and helpful hints.  We look forward to getting to know our neighbors better as we become a “PREPARED NEIGHBORHOOD”.

You could be anywhere - at work, at school or in the car.  How will you find each other?  Will you know if your children are safe?  Emergencies and disasters can strike quickly and without warning and can force you to evacuate your neighborhood
or confine you to your home.  What would you do if basic services - water, gas, electricity or telephones - were cut off?
